Control of PhOSCo is changing

As of August 6th, 2006, control of PhOSCo is now in the hands of Penguin Trials Ltd., to whome all queries should be directed. You can contact them at www.penguintrials.com.

Over the years, Guillemot Design has delivered:

The first EDC with non-IT end user build tools

The first EDC with XML clinical data and metadata

The first full function EDC with Open Source delivering zero risk

The first 100% Java multiplatform EDC with hybrid communications model

The first and still the only full function Open Source EDC with proven scalability

The first Protocol Specification to AutoValidation end-user Build Tool

and now - the first Online and Client/Server and Web Server EDC!

now faster, lower cost client/server deployment (see the News page update).

Mike Calder, CEO of Guillemot Design Ltd.

Guillemot Design Ltd was incorporated in 1999, to take over the former business of Guillemot Publishing, the designers and programmers providing the innovative "Clinware" Pharmaceutical Remote Data Entry software marketed via IBM. Guillemot now provides a radical new business model under the PhOSCo banner.

PhOSCo has been a major success, proving both its full scalability at Novartis, and at the other end of the spectrum with the KKS in Dusseldorf showing that small academic organisations don't need massive support staffs to run EDC successfully.

PhOSCo is one of the few EDC solutions that has demonstrated that it can move from the pilot stage to full production, in hundreds of real, full-scale trials, in a very few months.

PhOSCo is being used to deliver Last Patient Visit to Database close times of down to a single day, with proven savings of tens of millions of dollars per year. PhOSCo has proven that the low cost, zero risk Open Source business model works in a live commercial environment, and that this can live alongside a non-commercial Open Source community.

PhOSCo is being used by non-IT staff to design dozens of clinical trials a month, in a shorter time than any other full-function EDC solution. CRF pages with full interactive patient data checking are being produced in minutes.

We have always been committed to Open Standards and Open Source, and we've extended our committment by liberalising the access to the PhOSCo source code and by making non-profit use free of all licencing and distribution charges.

As one of the longest continuing providers of pharmaceutical EDC software, it is with regret that I have had to make the decision to pass on the baton of PhOSCo. We delivered the EDC solution with the richest function, with the end-user build tools and hybrid communications model that business needs, while supporting open standards and open interconnectivity. We hope that this will continue under the new owners.

Our automated validation functionality is an industry leader, further significantly reducing the design cycle time for our users, allowing much earlier First Patient Visits. Our Web Server product is proving its capability, running from the same customisation models as our client/server product. The same trial can make use of both methods of delivery, consolidating to a single PhOSCo database.

Now with PhOSCo LiveCDs, client/server can be deployed nearly as quickly, and with nearly as little cost and effort, as Web Server PhOSCo. We continue to innovate.

The time has come for me to hand over the baton to a younger generation. I believe Penguin Trials, to whom we're transferring operational control, will keep alive the PhOSCo tradition of excellence. I hope to continue to support them, and you, for some time to come.

Mike Calder.
